Tacos make a great meal, since they can be extremely personalized to individual tastes. Adding all sorts of vegetables or sauces along with the hamburger meat, makes a great combination! My love for tacos came after I was married. We rarely had them growing up, so I never knew how palate pleasing they could be.
I believe the key to successful taco meat is the correct combination of seasonings. If personal preference is hot, hot, hot, then a knowledge of hot spice combinations is critical. On the flip side, I would rather have a mild flavor coat my tongue and esophagus. I do not enjoy the burn from spicy food that goes all the way down and the heartburn that continues during the digestion process. Fortunately, the rest of my family agrees with my mild taco seasoning choice. As I have experienced in the past, too much spice gives my children and husband complaining privileges. I do not know of any cook who likes to hear how awful their creation is. Mild taco seasoning is gluten free, dairy free, and all natural! Forget purchasing a seasoning packet with questionable ingredients, when it is so simple to create your own at home that tastes great.
- 2 TBSP chili powder
- 1 tsp oregano
- 2 tsp paprika
- 2 TBSP cumin
- 2 tsp sea salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Use 3 TBSP of mild taco seasoning for 1 pound of hamburger. Taste. If you prefer a spicier flavor, add more until the taste is just right. Store extra spice in a container for later use.
